5 Effective Ways To Boost Your Confidence

This is a collaborative post.

Many people struggle with low self-esteem or confidence, and living with this on a daily basis can impact their quality of life. Not having any confidence can seriously limit what you want to do and are able to do, as you won’t feel confident enough to take part in everything life has to offer. This can massively impact your ability to get the most from everything around you.

Regrettably, boosting confidence isn’t a quick fix. It’s a journey that requires time, effort, and perseverance. But the rewards are worth it. As you build your self-esteem, you’ll enjoy life more and engage in activities you once thought were beyond your reach.

Let’s take a look at some strategies to try to boost your confidence and self-esteem.

5 Effective Ways To Boost Your Confidence

1. Stop comparing yourself to others

Are you always looking at others and wishing you felt more confident like them, or do you wish you looked like them or talked like them? Stop it. Comparison is the thief of joy; by comparing yourself, you only make yourself feel worse than you already do.

Sadly, this is easier said than done, and the envy you might feel towards others you perceive to be better at things than you can be hard to quash once it’s reared its head.

A great way to help you stop putting others on a pedestal over you can be to use a gratitude journal. You use this journal to write down things that made you happy or you’re grateful for each day. It could be 3 things that went well that day or 3 things you enjoyed about the day or recognised you are good at. It just needs to be positive, beneficial things that can boost your mindset and stop you from comparing yourself so much to others.

It can also be a good idea to change your social media consumption habits if you find this is impacting your mindset and causing you to compare your life to others, too. Remove those accounts that make you feel this way, to boost your confidence and stop you being so critical of who you are and your life.

2. Surround yourself with positivity

Misery loves company, as they say, and if you find that those around you are feeding into your poor self-esteem or dragging down your confidence, make a break. Again, it is easier said than done, but recognising signs that some people are bringing toxic energy into your life and looking at how you can manage or limit your exposure to them can be massively beneficial.

Find those who build you up instead of pulling you down. Pay attention to how you feel about certain people, and find opportunities, both in real life and online, that can make you feel good about yourself, not worse.

3. Self-care and wellness matters

Self-care and wellness are not just about your physical well-being. Both physical and mental well-being play a crucial role in boosting your confidence. By taking care of your body and mind, you’re showing yourself that you matter. This can have a significant impact on your self-esteem.

How you care for your body and what you feel like on the inside will impact how confident you feel. If you consume a diet mostly of junk food with little to no nutritional value, then this is making you feel worse. If you abuse your body instead of caring for it, you won’t feel great physically and mentally, and this is something you can and should change to help boost your confidence.

You want to focus on eating a healthy, balanced diet to give your body the nutrients it needs. When you eat right, you will feel better, healthier, and stronger, and this will definitely impact your self-esteem.

Try to add exercise to your life in a way you can manage, sustain, and enjoy. You need to enjoy it, or you won’t get stuck into it, and it won’t be beneficial. So it doesn’t matter what exercise you do, how you do it, or where. You simply need to add it to your life and see what you gain from it.

Remember, you’re a whole person, not just a collection of parts. By focusing on your overall well-being, including your mental health and sleep habits, you’re taking control of your life. This can help you feel more empowered and less at the mercy of low self-esteem.

4. Tackle identity issues

From time to time, people find certain aspects of their bodies or lives that are affecting their self-esteem. It might be that you have poor financial habits and are in debt, which is impacting your enjoyment of life and your ability to live life independently. Getting out of debt and finding resolutions can be instrumental in eradicating your debt levels, helping you get back on track, and removing barriers to your self-esteem.

Or are you might feel certain parts of your body are causing you issues, and you need to change them. Talking to medical care professionals on how to change parts of your body you are unhappy with can help you determine if this is the right course of action for you.

Changing how you look might not be the answer to your problems, so it is essential you think through any permanent changes such as breast enlargement or reduction, rhinoplasty, or a hair transplant before committing to them. You need to have realistic expectations for what the results can offer you to ensure it’s not going to make things worse or be a wasted endeavour.

5. Stop negative thinking

One main contributing factor to low self-confidence is how you think of and talk about yourself. A negative mindset and constantly putting yourself down are only going to feed into these low self-esteem issues and make you feel worse. So, much like you need to remove negative people from your life, you need to remove negative thoughts from it too.

Whenever you think something negative or put blocks in your way, find a way to turn it around so it’s positive. Change “I can’t do this” to “let’s just give it a try” or “I can’t believe you messed that up” to” At least I gave it a try”. You will notice the impact this can have until you realise you have successfully remove negativity from your way of thinking.
