The word ‘sleepover’ has childish connotations. Sleepovers were a standard birthday party activity when I was growing up and often involved movies, games, snacks, midnight feasts and not a lot of sleeping!

As an adult, you may no longer have ‘sleepovers’ but there will inevitably still be occasions when you stay over at a friend’s house. This could be after a party or event, when travelling or just for fun. Depending on the nature of the stay, you might have a spare bedroom to yourself or you might be sleeping on the sofa, the floor or sharing a room with several friends. You might not call it a sleepover but it basically is one, even though it might not be as wild as the sleepovers of your childhood or teenage years!

This is going to be a practical post where I will share a list of things to pack for an overnight stay at a friend’s house. Hopefully, this list will provide a shortcut to help you pack faster, and will ensure you don’t forget any of the essentials!

Health and wellbeing

If you take any regular medications, supplements or remedies at night or in the morning, it’s important to remember to bring them with you to ensure your continued wellbeing.

It’s a good idea to bring a filled water bottle in case you get thirsty at night and don’t want to disturb anyone by getting water.

Entertainment

Depending on the occasion, you might want to bring some activities to do with the people you are staying with. In any case, it’s always a good idea to bring a book to read in case you can’t sleep at night, or if you wake up earlier than everyone else.
