8 Things To Love About Spring

This is a collaborative post.

In a YouGov poll asking what is your favourite season, Summer came out on top, but Spring was not far behind. It’s clear that Spring is a popular month and most people would agree that there are many things to love about Spring!

I would probably have voted for Autumn in that poll. For a combination of reasons, I sometimes find Spring a difficult time of year in terms of mental wellbeing. I revel in the cosiness of Autumn and Winter, but sometimes Spring can feel to me like a door has been flung wide open and there is an unsettling lack of certainty and routine. I have had some difficult experiences during Springs gone by, and sometimes it brings back memories of those, so I’ve learned to associate Spring with being a difficult time of year.

That said, there are also many things I genuinely love about the Spring. I’m writing this post to help myself undo my negative associations with the Spring, and strengthen my positive associations by focusing on those good things instead. I hope this post will help you feel good too by reminding you of some things to love about Spring.

8 Things To Love About Spring

1. Spring Flowers

Daffodils, primroses, bluebells, tulips… There are so many beautiful flowers at this time of year and they brighten up gardens, parks and grass verges almost everywhere you look. I love seeing the Spring flowers, especially daffodils, they are just so cheerful! You can also buy bunches of daffodils and other Spring flowers relatively cheaply in the supermarkets to bring Spring indoors and brighten up your home.

2. Easter

Whether you are religious or not, it can be enjoyable to participate in Easter celebrations. Whether you attend an Easter Egg hunt, a village fete, or simply treat yourself to an Easter egg or two, those little things can put a big smile on your face. I like to make the most of the Easter things in the shops while they are available. For example, are you a fan of Cadbury Mini Eggs? An Easter favourite!

3. Baby animals

What animal lover doesn’t love seeing baby animals? If you visit the countryside at this time of year you’ll see baby farm animals including lambs, calves and foals, and you might catch sight of wild animals including baby bunnies and fledgling birds too. They are sure to put a smile on your face!

4. Lighter mornings

The lighter mornings at this time of year make it so much easier to get out of bed in the morning! I like getting up early because it allows me to have a more productive start to the day. Getting up early is so much more pleasant and feels more natural when there is light streaming into the room.

5. Lighter evenings

Likewise, the evenings gradually get lighter as Spring progresses. It’s nice to be out and about in the evening when it’s still light outside. Think of mild, light evenings in a pub garden, or going out for an evening walk. This is the time of year when you can start doing things like that!

6. Warmer weather (if you’re lucky)

I admit I am fond of cold weather and wrapping up warm in cosy clothes. But there is also something nice about being able to go out without a coat on for the first time when Spring comes around. The first warm and sunny days are a preview of the Summer ahead and can help put you in a good mood.

7. Spring cleaning

Of course, you can have a good declutter at any time of year, but there is a stereotype of ‘Spring cleaning’. Why not jump on the bandwagon and have a good cleaning and decluttering session? I like to do this in the Spring because it feels like a good time for a fresh start. Also, with the mornings and evenings being lighter, it is simply easier to get more cleaning and sorting out done in the light.

8. A Feeling of Fresh Starts

As mentioned in the last point, Spring feels like a time for fresh starts. This can feel overwhelming and like there is pressure to change for the better. However, I try to see it as a positive thing and a chance to start anew and make positive changes in my life. Out with the old and in with the new!

What are your top things to love about Spring?

Do you, like me, appreciate the lighter, longer days and warmer weather? Are you a nature fan who loves seeing flowers and baby animals? Are you a chocoholic who revels in the excuse to eat chocolate in the form of Easter eggs? Do you see Spring as a time for fresh starts? Let me know your favourite things about Spring in the comments below. Let’s make the most of this beautiful time of year!
