How To Create The Ideal Nursery

This is a collaborative post.

If you’re about to have a baby, then you know the importance of a nursery. There’s a lot that goes into preparing this type of room, and creating the ideal nursery can be considered a major project.

If you’re thinking of creating a nursery and you’re feeling a bit overwhelmed, this is only natural. Home decor projects are always stressful but they are very fulfilling. When it comes to a nursery it is no different. There’s a lot to think about but if you stay on the ball you can create a beautiful space for your baby.

How To Create The Ideal Nursery

Plan the Layout

One of the first things you’re going to need to do is to plan the layout. The positioning of the crib is very important. You want to ensure that you keep it as far away from windows as you can. This is because you want to make sure that your baby is not basking in direct sunlight.

Your layout should provide easy access to any storage units that you plan to put into the room. You should also have ease of access to changing tables. You don’t want to be stubbing your toe or always bouncing painfully into furnishings because your layout is poor.

Use the Right Colour Scheme

The colour scheme of your ideal nursery should give a sense of tranquillity and ease. You want to reduce that feeling of anxiety and chaos that can come from certain colours. Even if they don’t produce this effect, certain colours can make the room less conducive to keeping your baby from getting cranky.

So which colours should you use? The best colours are soft pastels and muted neutrals. This kind of hue will create the tranquil and relaxing feeling that you need in the room.

Select Great Furniture

Like any room in your home that you are decorating, you need to think about furniture selection. It’s no different for your little one’s nursery. Of course, the centrepiece of any nursery is the crib and you can easily transform it into a toddler bed with this easy to follow guide when the time comes, but there are other furnishings that you need to pick up as well.

With that being said, you should always make sure that the crib that you have chosen meets all the safety standards out there. Adjustable mattress heights are also great so that you have easier access to your baby.

You can place a rocking chair in the room for those late nights when you get up and feel groggy but still have to feed or soothe the baby. These types of chairs will help to soothe you as well and keep you awake on those nights when you feel like a walking zombie.

Storage is also very important in a nursery. Make sure that you’re incorporating shelves and baskets and be sure to buy a dresser spacious enough to keep everything organised.

Choose Beautiful Decor Elements

When it comes to choosing decor elements, you are at the fun part of the project. This is the time when you get to choose a theme for the entire room and flex your creative muscles.

It’s time to go shopping for artwork, wall decals and custom murals! There’s such a wide variety of these to choose from especially if you go to online stores.

It can all be overwhelming; that’s why it’s suggested that you have a theme so that you can zero in on the type of art, decals and murals that you want to put in the room. A mobile is a centrepiece of the room as it will hang over the crib to stimulate your baby’s senses. This can have a separate theme if you wish.

You’re also going to need some soft and plush blankets as well as area rugs and decorative pillows. These will add a touch of warmth with extra cosiness to the space.

Get the Lighting Right

During the daytime, you have to rely on sunlight to keep your nursery well-lit so that you can carry out the activities that you need to. However, when the night falls you’re going to need to make sure that you’re able to see.

For the ideal nursery, lighting should be warm at all times. When the lights are too bright they can agitate the baby. Consider getting lights that can be dimmed, whenever you need to change the ambiance. If you are using a nightlight make sure that it is soft and soothing.

Be Safe

It’s important that your nursery is safe. As your baby grows they are going to want to crawl around the room and you have to take that into consideration.

Be sure that you are baby-proofing your nursery. In fact, many people go so far as to baby-proof their entire home. You can do this by making sure you cover plugs and anything else that may be considered dangerous.

Get Organised

It’s important that you try to maintain a clutter-free nursery. You are going to need to label things. You don’t want your head to feel like it’s spinning when you’re trying to find something, in a hurry. Taking the time to label everything and categorise it will make things so much easier.

You can have a special drawer where you put diapers, another one where you put all the clothing such as onesies and a basket where you place all your child’s toys.

Regular decluttering is essential if you want the room to remain functional and still look great at the same time.

Personal Touches are Good Too!

All those pictures that you took at your baby shower when you were pregnant, and pictures that you took when you had your sip and see, make great mementos. Don’t be shy about adding them to the room to bring that wonderful sense of the personal into the space.

A nursery is a special place for your baby and yourself to spend time together. It’s not just about changing and feeding. It’s about having a room where you can bond and enjoy the company of your precious bundle of joy. These tips should help you on the way to creating the ideal nursery for you and your new little one.
