Trying Vegamour Hair Products On My Fine, Curly Hair

AD | This post features products that have been gifted to me in exchange for a review. All opinions are honest and my own.

From my personal experience, fine, curly hair is one of the hardest hair types to take care of. My fine hair is very temperamental – one day it will form into nice curls whereas other days it is a frizzy mess. I’ve experimented with the curly girl method in the past and it’s helped me to some extent with learning to get the best out of my hair, but I very much feel I’m still on a journey with it.

I like trying out different hair products in the hope of finding some that work consistently well on my hair, so I was delighted to be contacted by Vegamour with the opportunity to try out some of their hair products and write this review. I had heard of Vegamour before, through reading other blog posts, and they were a brand that was on my radar, so I was very excited to have the chance to try them out. Read on to find out all about Vegamour hair products, and whether they worked for my fine, curly hair.

What products was I sent?

When setting up this collaboration, I appreciated being asked about my hair and what results I am looking for, so that my product selection could be personalised for me. The following products were helpfully suggested for me:

  • GRO Revitalizing Shampoo
  • GRO Revitalizing Conditioner
  • GRO Hair Serum
  • HYDR-8 Deep Moisture Repair Mask
  • HYDR-8 Leave-In Conditioner
  • HYDR-8 Weightless Repair Oil

These choices were a combination of Vegamour’s GRO and HYDR-8 ranges. The GRO shampoo, conditioner and serum would hopefully help me achieve faster, thicker hair growth, and the HYDR-8 mask, leave-in conditioner and oil would add hydration and protect my curls.

My first impressions of Vegamour hair products

My first impressions of any products come from the packaging, and Vegamour did not disappoint. The products were sustainably packaged in a simple cardboard box with no excess plastic packaging inside. The products were loose in the box apart from the HYDR-8 Weightless Repair Oil and the GRO Hair Serum which came in individual cardboard boxes – I think this is because these bottles are made of glass whereas the others are made of plastic. The GRO Hair Serum bottles were also wrapped in plastic, I suppose to prevent the product from leaking in transit.

The product bottles and tubs themselves are attractive with a luxury look and feel. I love the pink and gold colour scheme and I think the products look really classy and pretty on my dressing table as well as feeling substantial and high-quality. My favourite packaging of all is the HYDR-8 Weightless Repair Oil – the glass bottle fades from translucent pink at the top to almost clear at the bottom which I think looks really attractive.

My experiences trying Vegamour hair products

As I write this post, I have been using the Vegamour hair products for approximately 6 weeks. Here are my thoughts and experiences so far:

GRO Revitalizing Shampoo

The GRO Revitalizing Shampoo “cleanses and fortifies hair naturally with vegan Karmatin™ while microencapsulated phytoactives target the scalp to promote thicker, fuller, longer looking hair”. I’ve found that a little goes a long way with this shampoo. I try not to use too much shampoo on my hair anyway as it can tend to dry it out, but I’ve found that using a small amount of this shampoo is enough to make my scalp feel cleansed but without drying out my hair too much, especially when combined with the conditioner.

GRO Revitalizing Conditioner

GRO Revitalizing Conditioner works together with the shampoo to target the scalp, as well as “nourishes and protects hair with rich botanical oils”. The conditioner has a thick, creamy texture that is easy to apply and glides nicely onto my hair. It makes my hair feel really smooth, silky and easy to detangle. I really like this conditioner, and although it’s too early to tell if it is making a significant difference to my hair growth, it is certainly seems to hydrate my hair.

GRO Hair Serum

The GRO Hair Serum is perhaps the product I was most excited to try because it claims to reduce shedding and improve hair health, strength and thickness, helping it to grow thicker and faster. I’ve been trying to achieve longer hair for years, but whenever it gains length, it also tends to appear straggly because it is fine. Therefore I have been using this product religiously ever since I received it, in the hope of growing longer, thicker hair.

The serum is easy to apply – I’ve been applying just under a dropper-full to my scalp every evening and gently massaging it in. The product has a subtle scent and it doesn’t make my hair greasy. As for the effects, I feel like my hair might be growing a little faster than usual, but it’s really too early to tell. It says on the website that you can expect to see results in 3-4 months, so I am going to keep on using it and see what happens!

You can either get the serum in an individual bottle, or in a set of three bottles which is what I received. I am still on my first bottle after 6 weeks, so the three bottles should easily last me 3-4 months. I’m excited to see some noticeable results in my hair growth – comment below if you’d like an update on how it’s going.

HYDR-8 Deep Moisture Repair Mask

The HYDR-8 Deep Moisture Repair Mask “delivers deep levels of moisture, instantly improving the appearance of damaged hair”. This mask comes in an attractive tub that feels sturdy and high-quality. The instructions say to use this mask twice a week in place of conditioner. I only tend to wash my hair twice a week anyway, so I used this mask in place of conditioner about once every two to three washes.

This mask has a lovely creamy texture but is not too thick and heavy. It’s easy to apply to the hair and a little seems to go a long way – I’ve used it around 3 times and still have over half the tub left, but for someone with thicker hair, it might not last as long. My hair feels hydrated after using it.

HYDR-8 Leave-In Conditioner

The HYDR-8 Leave-In Conditioner is described as a “multitasking leave-in conditioner” that “fights frizz, tames flyaways, and detangles, leaving hair hydrated and silky smooth”. It also provides heat protection up to 230ºC. The bottle is a spray bottle but the product is more like a thin, creamy consistency rather than a liquid. Having a spray bottle works though, because it prevents too much product from coming out at once.

I typically applied this leave-in conditioner after washing my hair, and I also used it as a heat protector before straightening my fringe (I usually straighten my fringe while leaving the rest of my hair curly). I feel it worked well as a leave-in conditioner but was a little too heavy on my hair to use specifically for heat protection before straightening. I find that less is more with this product, probably because my hair is fine.

HYDR-8 Weightless Repair Oil

The HYDR-8 Weightless Repair Oil is “a weightless hair oil that fights frizz and adds shine for softer, healthier looking hair”. This is probably the product I have used the least out of the range, simply because I am not in the habit of using hair oils. However, when I did use it, it did help to add shine to my hair and tame the frizz. As mentioned earlier, the bottle that this oil comes in is so pretty!

What do Vegamour hair products smell like?

For some reason, I had imagined that the products would have a sweet smell, perhaps vanilla, but in fact they didn’t smell how I expected at all. I would describe the scent of the products as pleasantly herbal, almost medicinal, and a little spicy. The all smell a little different but are variations on the same spiced scent. The products are not marked as having a specific scent on the packaging, and I get the impression that they simply smell of the natural ingredients that are in them. I think this is a good thing and it also means they have a really unique scent.

Will I keep using Vegamour hair products?

I really liked the Vegamour range overall, but my particular favourites were the shampoo and conditioner, the mask and the hair growth serum. I feel the shampoo, conditioner and mask worked well on my hair, and the mask in particular really helped to add moisture. Although it’s too early to see hair growth results from the serum, I have had no negative effects either so I am excited to continue using it. If I notice good results from it, I would definitely consider repurchasing along with some of the other products in the range.

I think the leave-in conditioner and the weightless repair oil are lovely products too, but I felt that my fine hair just didn’t really need them. They did help to smooth out my hair, but also made it look a bit flat rather than light and bouncy. However, I think they would work really well for thicker hair and other hair textures so please don’t rule them out if you are thinking of trying Vegamour hair products. I plan to keep trying these products in different ways to see if I can make them work better for me.

Being a luxury brand, the Vegamour hair products are not cheap, their current prices ranging from £30 ($34) for the leave-in conditioner, up to £139 ($165) for the set of three serums. That said, I’ve found that with most of their products, a little goes a long way. If you have fine hair like me, that can work to your advantage as you won’t need to use as much product at a time.

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to try out Vegamour hair products. They really look, smell and feel so luxurious and it’s great to know that they are natural, vegan and cruelty-free. Their products are versatile and there will be something for every hair type and texture within their range, to help you achieve your hair goals.
