Blogtober Day 17 – Pumpkin Candle and Sheet Mask

I am subscribed to the Cruelty Free Beauty Box, which is a beauty subscription box with a difference. All the products they sell are vegan and cruelty-free, and most are environmentally conscious.

As well as the subscription box, they have an online shop with the option to add extra items into your next box. While browsing the online shop a few weeks ago, I saw that they had a Halloween range. My attention was drawn to a Pumpkin Pie Soy Candle made by Vegan Bunny. I decided to order it because I didn’t have any Autumnal scented candles.

I was very excited when my box arrived today! It contained a variety of lovely products ranging from skincare and haircare to makeup and fragrance, and of course, the Pumpkin Pie candle. I was delighted to also find another Halloween themed product in the box – a Pumpkin Infused Sheet Mask made by Natura.

For my Blogtober activity today, I decided to try out both of these pumpkin themed products!

Pumpkin Pie Soy Candle

I immediately liked the look of this candle. It came in an aesthetically pleasing rose-gold coloured tin with a beautiful label. I love that this candle is vegan and cruelty-free. It is sometimes hard to know whether candles are, because they don’t always say on the packaging. This candle is made of soy wax, and it is natural and handmade.

Even before lighting the candle, the pumpkin pie scent was strong and delicious. When lit, the fragrance filled the whole room. Pumpkin pie is such an Autumnal scent, and this one truly smells good enough to eat.

I bought an Autumn Berries candle in my mini charity shop haul the other day, but that one doesn’t smell nearly as strong in comparison. I am really pleased with the pumpkin pie candle. It is going to be my number one candle of choice for the rest of the Autumn season!

Natura Pumpkin Infused Sheet Mask

This pumpkin-infused sheet mask by Natura claims to brighten and soften skin, as well as boost collagen production. I have actually never used a sheet mask before, so this was a new experience for me.

Before using the mask, I cleansed my face using Balanceme Pure Skin Face Wash. Then, I followed the instructions on the mask. I unfolded it from the pack, placed it on my face, and left it for 15 minutes before removing it.

The mask was easy to apply, although I couldn’t get it to lie flat over my whole face – it wrinkled around my cheeks. It felt quite wet but not dripping. I am unsure how it compares to other sheet masks as it is the first one I’ve used! It kept slipping down my face so I had to keep pulling it up to stop it going in my mouth. Maybe I should have laid down on my back to avoid this!

It felt pleasant, if a little strange, on my skin. After a while it made my face tingle a bit and even sting in places. This is probably a good thing as it meant it was doing something!

The mask was translucent white. I couldn’t really smell the pumpkin; the smell just reminded me of those wet hand wipes you sometimes get given in restaurants. I’m sure those don’t contain many natural ingredients though!

My skin did look radiant when I took the mask off. I wasn’t sure whether I was meant to rinse my face afterwards, but I went with yes because it felt quite sticky. I will be interested to see whether it has a noticeable positive effect on my skin over the next day or so.

Is it sustainable?

This sheet mask is of course vegan and cruelty-free, and it is also water-free and biodegradable which makes it a sustainable option. The ingredients are all natural and plant-based, and in fact the top ingredient is pumpkin!

The packaging is made of brown paper with a foil and plastic lining. I am unsure whether this is biodegradable too.

The only downside from a sustainability point of view is that this mask was made in Korea, which means it has been shipped a long way across the world.

I wouldn’t say that using this sheet mask felt like a particularly Autumnal experience, but I know that it did contain pumpkin even if I couldn’t smell it! Anyhow, I enjoyed my first ever sheet mask – it was fun!

Have you been using any Autumnal or Halloween themed products this month?

What have you been using, and do you have any recommendations? Do you subscribe to any beauty subscription boxes? If so, have they sent you any Autumnal or Halloween themed products? Let me know in the comments.

I would highly recommend the Cruelty Free Beauty Box if you are looking to introduce more vegan and cruelty-free products into your personal care routine. Even if you don’t want to receive a subscription box, they have a great online shop that anyone can browse and order from.
