4 Daily Habits That Will Bring More Happiness To Your Life

This is a collaborative post.

Do you feel as though you just aren’t as happy as you could be? Maybe you’re going through tough times, or maybe the little things in life are bringing you down. Either way, if you want to make a positive change to your happiness levels then this is the guide for you. We’ll be taking a look at 4 daily habits that will increase your happiness, even if it’s only in a small way.

4 Daily Habits That Will Bring More Happiness To Your Life

1. Make the effort to smile

People smile when they are happy, but believe it or not, it’s a two-way street. Smiling releases dopamine, the ‘feel-good hormone’ which makes you happy. Even when you are not in the mood to smile, you should try. You don’t have to walk around with a fake smile plastered on your face, but if you can smile just a little more, it will have a positive impact on your emotions and your mental health. 2. Get some exercise

Exercise isn’t just important for your body. Regular exercise can help to reduce feelings of stress, as well as relieve anxiety and depression. It is also a great tool if you want to boost your self-esteem and happiness. Even a small amount of activity can make a difference here. You don’t have to train for a triathlon, you just need to do something that you enjoy and that gets your blood pumping. The trick here is for you to avoid over-exerting yourself. There’s no need to push yourself into a strenuous exercise routine that might only leave you feeling frustrated, which is the last thing you need.

3. Get enough sleep

Adults typically need to get at least 7 hours of sleep every night. Teenagers need to sleep more. If you find yourself fighting the urge to nap during the day, or if you are just not able to function because of your brain fog then this is a major sign that you need to make a change.

Getting enough sleep helps you to ward off chronic illnesses such as depression, heart disease and diabetes. If you want to help yourself then one thing you can do is write down how much sleep you are getting each night, and how you feel after. You will then have a better idea of how much sleep you require to function effectively and feel your best.

4. Eat with health in mind

You probably know this already, but the food choices you make have a huge impact on your overall health, which includes your mental health. Carbohydrates release serotonin which is a feel-good hormone, but if possible, you need to keep simple carbs to a minimum. The main reason for this is because the energy surge you get from them is only temporary and this can lead to you crashing.

Protein-rich foods such as legumes can help to boost dopamine in the brain, so make sure you eat plenty of those. They also boost norepinephrine, which helps with energy and concentration.

What are your daily habits for happiness?

If you don’t already follow the above tips, then now is a good time to get started. Even if you make just one positive change to your daily routine, you are sure to feel a boost in your happiness which will take you one step closer to feeling good about yourself and your life.
