I am always thinking of new ideas of challenges I’d like to do. Here is one I came up with recently: read a whole book series within a month!
This challenge wouldn’t have to be done in a month. You could scale it to different time periods depending on the length of the series, the time you have available, and your reading speed.
How would the challenge work?
Simply divide the number of days by the number of books, to find out approximately how many days to allocate for each book (of course, the length of each book may differ!).
Then, immerse yourself in the series! You could aim to read at set times, for example, 1 hour in the morning, 1 hour during the day and 1 hour before bed. Or you could just read whenever you have the spare time to do so.
This challenge would be great if there is a series you have been wanting to read, but it has seemed overwhelming due to the time commitment. It means you can read the books in sequence, and the earlier books will still be fresh in your mind.
I think this challenge would be great fun! If you chose a fiction series, you would be immersed in that fictional world for a month. If you chose non-fiction, you would learn a lot!
How much time should I give myself for this challenge?
The time bounds will add to the fun and keep you motivated to read. This challenge may also help to increase your reading speed. But as I mentioned earlier, this challenge wouldn’t have to be done in a month. You could spread it out over several months or longer. You can figure out how hard you want this challenge to be by choosing the time frame in proportion to the number and length of books, and how quickly you think you could get through them.
If you give yourself a long time to read a short series, it defies the point of the challenge because you could do that anyway, and it wouldn’t be challenging at all! On the other hand, if you give yourself a short time to read a very long series, you would be rushing to get through the books and you might not enjoy them so much. You would feel pressure to spend hours on end sitting reading, even when you have lost concentration or would rather be moving around. You also wouldn’t leave much time to complete other tasks. So, if you do this challenge, make sure to work out a good balance!
Am I going to do this challenge?
I would like to do this challenge with the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. There are currently 9 books in the series, so in a 31 day month I would aim to read each book within 3 days, and I’d have 4 days to spare in case I get behind. This seems challenging, but do-able!
If I do this challenge I will post about it to keep you updated!
Have you ever set yourself a reading challenge?
Have you ever tried to read a certain number of books (or a series) within a certain time frame? Did you succeed? Let me know in the comments!
