Blogtober Day 30 – Watching ‘Countdown’

This evening I went to the cinema to see the recently released film, ‘Countdown’. This is a horror film, rated 15, so I thought it would be a suitably scary film for the night before Halloween!

I took a risk in going to see this because I don’t normally enjoy horror films. I get scared very easily, and find myself unable to sleep because I can’t get the scary thoughts and images out my head! However, I decided to go for it, reminding myself that it was in the spirit of Blogtober and Halloween. I definitely wasn’t going to go on my own though – I brought along a brave friend who I could hide behind if I got too scared!

What is the film about?

I won’t give away too much of the plot in case you decide to go and see the film. Basically, Countdown is an app that counts down the time until you are going to die. A girl called Quinn downloads it and finds that she only has less than 3 days to live, according to the app. The story revolves around her trying to outsmart the app and avoid her death, and that of her sister.

You can watch the trailer here.

Did I enjoy the film?

I did enjoy the film! I was scared, but not as scared as I thought I might be. There were a lot of moments that made me jump, and the idea of the app is terrifying. I definitely would never download that app if it existed, even as a fake app!

Despite being scared, I am glad I saw the film because it was a gripping story and an intriguing concept. I also liked that there were moments of the film that were humorous and/or romantic, because these made a relieving change from the horror moments.

Now that I am home after seeing the film, I am still a little bit scared when I think about it, but as long as I focus my mind on other things I am okay. I think I will be able to sleep tonight – I just hope I don’t have nightmares!

Would I recommend this film?

Yes I would recommend ‘Countdown’ because it was unique and clever. Although it was scary, it wasn’t TOO scary and it was still enjoyable. However, if you are very sensitive to scary films, you might want to steer clear of it, or definitely don’t watch it on your own!

Have you seen any scary films lately?

If so, what did you think of them? Do you normally enjoy horror films, or do you get scared like me? Do you have a favourite film to watch at Halloween time? Let me know in the comments.
